From December 2025, new regulations governing the use of retinol in cosmetic products will come into effect across the UK and EU markets. These changes will have a direct impact on product development and retail strategies for clinical skincare brands.
In Summary:
· From December 2025: No new facial skincare products containing more than 0.3% retinol can be launched on the market.
· From December 2026: All existing facial skincare products with more than 0.3% retinol must be withdrawn from sale.
What This Means for Your Brand
To support your transition and maintain compliance, 5 Squirrels has developed a new retinol formulation: Retinova.
Retinova is identical in composition and performance to our bestselling product, Recover, with one key difference — the retinol content has been reduced from 0.5% to 0.3%, making it fully compliant with upcoming UK and EU regulations.
Transition Timeline
We’re taking a proactive approach to ensure a smooth, timely transition for all our customers:
New Customers
From July 31, 2025: 5 Squirrels will no longer launch Recover or R+ for new customers.
From August 2025: All new retinol product launches will be with Retinova.
Existing Customers
From August 2025: Existing customers may begin adding Retinova to their product ranges.
By October 2026: Recover and R+ will be withdrawn. No further orders will be accepted after this date.
Planning Ahead
We strongly encourage all clients to begin planning for this regulatory change now. While Recover and R+ remain available until October 2026, preparing early will ensure business continuity and compliance.
For assistance with transitioning to Retinova, or if you have questions about how these changes affect your brand, please contact your Key Account Manager or email info@5squirrels.com.
